Cycle the city for the heart foundation
Cyclists are being urged to sign up to the British Heart Foundation’s Heart of York Bike Ride on Sunday, September 3, to help raise money for life saving research. The unforgettable event will see around 300 cyclists ride through the streets of York to help support the foundation’s fight against heart disease.
Riders will take on a 22 or 40 mile circular route through the historical city and into the beautiful North Yorkshire countryside.
The Heart of York Bike Ride is in its sixth year and is organised by the foundation’s York fundraising branch with the money raised going towards-the-charity’s-life-saving research.
There are currently around 22,990 people in York fighting a daily battle with heart and circulatory disease. These devastating conditions claim the lives of around 540 people in the city each year.
Speaking ahead of the event, Phil McMahon, event organiser at the BHF York fundraising branch, said: “The Heart of York Bike Ride is a must-attend event for any keen or amateur cyclist in North Yorkshire.
“It’s a fantastic event that takes in some breath-taking sights of both the city and the surrounding countryside. Join the fight against heart disease and sign up today!”
The Heart of York Bike Ride is a key event in the calendar and we’re really grateful to the BHF York fundraising branch for organising what promises to be another incredible event this year. We’re calling on keen cyclsts across Yorkshire to join our fight for every heartbeat. Every pound raised helps fund ground-breaking discoveries and identify new treatments that could help save more people from the devastating effects of heart disease.
The 22 mile and 40 mile route is open to cyclists aged 14 and over and begins at York St John University Sports Centre on Haxby Road at 9am on Sunday, September 3.
