Join welcome for cycle duo
Chance to join the big welcome for two exsoldiers who will arrive in Scarborough on Sunday after cycling from Morecambe.
Two former soldiers will arrive in Scarborough on Sunday to a welcome party after cycling from Morecambe.
They are taking part in the latest of a series of fund-raising activities to help a severely disabled young boy and other families being helped by a charity set up last year, Willows Lull. Peter Bleach, who is supporting the group and runs the Crescent Hotel in Scarborough, said: “They are local guys who have served in a number of theatres including Afghanistan. They are doing the coast-to-coast cycle over two days, and will arrive in Scarborough at the Crescent Hotel at around 3.30pm on Sunday. One of them is still recovering from a back operation so this is quite a challenge for him. We are arranging a welcoming party along with live music, a barbecue and cocktails, with proceeds to Willows Lull.”
People are invited to join the welcome for the cyclists, Mark Wallace-Dowson and Alan McKillop.
The group was set up to fill the lack of a respite centre for families with severely disabled children in Scarborough.
A group of volunteers were able to raise enough money to buy a suitable property, a former small B&B on the North Side of Scarborough, near Peasholm Park. This will shortly come into operation.
The Scarborough Branch of the Yorkshire Regiment Association decided to support the charity. The association was formed last year because traditional regiments such as The Green Howards had been absorbed into the new Yorkshire Regiment. The purpose is to provide a social network, as well as to support charity.
