Band’s Corporation gig raises £1,500

-

A charity gig by the band Nearly Famous at the Corporation Club on Dean Road raised £1,500 for Scarborough Disabled Swimming Club. The band is made up from local members of original popular groups from the Sixties and Seventies – Jonty Hartley and Mick Hill from Jonty and the Strangers (the first rock band to feature in Scarborough), Pete Liley from The Moonshots and The Mandrakes (which featured a very young Robert Palmer), Bob Woodyatt and Graham Trousdale from The Incas, and Pete Jackson who played drums with Brave New World.

The band thanked DJ Paul Murray who compered the night, special guest musicians Paul Garbutt and Mick Hill, the Corporation Club for free use of the concert room, Guilian Alonze for sponsoring the posters and the tickets, Bernie Hopkins (The Moonshots roadie in the 60s) and everyone who bought a ticket for the event. A similar event is being planned for July 2018. PICTURED from left are Jonty Hartley, Pete Liley, Bob Woodyatt, Graham Trousdale and Pete Jackson. The Latter-Day Saints Church on the corner of Stepney Road and Stepney Drive is holding a summer gala on Saturday, August 19, 10am-4pm.

Attractions will include a bouncy castle, martial arts display, members from the Mountain Rescue team, Conservation Volunteers, the police, a fire engine, plus stalls and food and drink.

For those interested in family history, help and advice will be given to trace your ancestors, and a tour of the church building will be on offer. Everyone is invited to attend.
