Alternative site is laughable

-

I must applaud the council for the work they have done in relocating Filey Road Sports Centre into the new Weaponness Sports Village, it is not perfect with the missing tennis and squash courts but overall I think it is good.

However, they must not get carried away with that success.

South Cliff Bowling Club was never included in the sports centre parcel of land for sale or replacement and cannot now be just lumped in as if it was waste land.

In fact if any developer opened their eyes to its potential it could be included in a new development as a cultural asset.

The disgraceful comments put before council stating that the club was struggling when in fact membership has increased in recent years is typical of certain parts of this council’s tactics in misinforming the community in order to get what they want.

The idea of moving the club to the redundant sites on the cliff side is laughable if it were not so serious. Did they not do their homework on this old site?

Because if they had they would know why it became redundant. It is too cold and windy on most summer evenings for bowling on an exposed cliff side.

Bowling is a part of our great British heritage that is slowly being wiped out by developers in many cities desperate to make a quick buck at any price, please don’t let Scarborough join this awful list.

People in the town need to make their opinions clear to local councillors and force them to do their job of representing the people of this town.

Let’s all get behind this little gem and save South Cliff bowling green. Barrie Watson Stepney Road Scarborough
