Junior Report with YDO James Perrett

-

On Sunday we saw over 400 Mini Players converge on Scarborough Rugby Club for a minis matrix.

These kids came from Pocklington RUFC, Driffield RUFC and also Hornsea RUFC plus our regular Scarborough RUFC Mini players.

It was a beautiful Sunday morning with the sun shining and the ground drying out quickly which made for some great rugby conditions. The kids relished the chance to play some different opposition and made the most of all the games they played against all the different teams.

Here is a statement from one of our newest recruits: Jessica-Mai Fox, aged nine.

“I have just recently joined Scarborough Rugby Club.

“After just two training sessions I was asked to join in the Matrix in Scarborough. I was very nervous but when I was given my kit I felt like part of the team, and started to feel excited.

“After playing, and really enjoying the first game, I was looking forward to the rest of the games.

“By the last game I felt very proud of myself, because I scored a try.

“I loved playing with my team and I am looking forward to future games and training with them”.

The Scarborough Under-11s had the opportunity to play the curtain-raiser game on Saturday for Scarborough 1st XV vs Beverley 1st XV which was being televised through Estuary TV.

The kids relished the chance to play in front of a large crowd and really gained a lot of confidence playing some of the best rugby they have ever played.

The game against Beverley Under-11s was a great spectacle for the crowd waiting to watch the first team to play.
