Old Scarborians’ appeal for ‘Three Kings’ to perform

-

The Old Scarborians’ Association has put out a festive appeal for ‘Three Kings’ to come forward.

The group, which is for former pupils of Scarborough Boys’ High School, is looking for three soloists to perform in the carol We Three Kings at an upcoming service.

The event will take place on Tuesday December 12 at St Laurence’s Church, Scalby from 7.30pm. It will be followed by mulled wine and warm mince pies in the Church Rooms. Bishop David Wilbourne will be the celebrant and Mike Lester will be the organist for the occasion.

All former pupils and staff and their friends and families will receive a very warm welcome. The service will feature a mixture of traditional carols and lessons, along with some contemporary readings catching a more questioning mind-set.

Bishop David said: “I attended the school when I lived in Scarborough as a teenager in the 1970s, and found it a brilliant place, with high standards of discipline and academic achievement, but also like an extended family, with a relaxed caring feel.”

Scarborough Boys’ High School ceased to exist in 1973, but the Old Scarborians’ Association, consisting of former pupils and members of staff, is still very strong, with over 600 members, many local.

If there are any old boys out there with choral skills who could be a king, they are encouraged to get in touch by calling Bishop David on (01723) 362850.
