1on The Most Beautiful People Earth” - The Fulani: An illustrated talk by Dr Jane Glaister Scarborough Art Gallery, The Crescent, Monday February 12 at 2.30pm Jane Glaister worked in Northern Nigeria, the land of the Fulani, perennial nomads, courageous fighters, elegant aristocrats. The Crescent, Scarborough, Thursday February 8 at 7.30pm Laurel Premo and Michael Beauchamp of Red Tail Ring create lush, intricate arrangements of original folk music and traditional ballads with banjo, fiddle, guitar, and close harmonies.
Over seven years of touring, Red Tail Ring has performed their brand of acoustic roots all over the United States, travelled over seas to play in Denmark, Germany and Sweden, and has also appeared at some of the most notable festivals. Tickets on door
4 Woodend, Dynasties of Doom
The Crescent, Scarborough, Tuesday February 13 at 1pm Theatre director and performer Tim Tubbs continues his lunchtime series of talks.
This week the focus is the Romanovs – the second dynasty to rule Russia, after the House of Rurik, reigning from 1613 until the abdication of Tsar Nicholas II on March 15, 1917, as a result of the February Revolution.

Sam Gray and Yvette Morris will present Good Inspirations in Scarboro’, reading as Wilfred and Susan Owen, who shared
a strong bond and a close relationship.
The event reveals their thoughts in their own written words during the time Owen spent in Scarborough between November 1917 and August 1918.
The talk will be illustrated with projected images of the Clifton Hotel where Owen was billeted (then called the Clarence Gardens Hotel). Good Inspirations in Scarboro’ begins a centenary programme of the 1918 -2018 events marking the final year of Owen’s life. Wilfred Owen in Scarborough will be presented at Scarborough Art Gallery from April 7 to September 2. Presented in the hall by the Chris Beetles Gallery, this unique exhibition celebrates the best-known aspect of the work of Heath Robinson. His cartoons and illustrations reflect a very English response to progress, and particularly the technological developments of the early 20th century, in both war and peace. Throughout his career Heath remained the unparalleled practitioner of the comic image. He produced an increasing number of humorous drawings for magazines and, from the World War One, was acknowledged the most original illustrator of his time. Admission charges apply 9Skipping Pancake Day Races and Day Scarborough, Tuesday February 13 Scarborough’s Annual Pancake Race is more than just your standard pancake race, each duo will not only be judged on their sheer speed but also on their fancy dress, pancake flipping technique and how much pancake they have left in their pan after tackling our obstacle course.
The worthy winners will be taking home the much coveted Golden Frying Pan. The ringing of the Pancake Bell will take place near the lifeboat station in South Bay at noon.
