Evening League sides gearing up for return to action
The 2018 season of the Andy Hire Scarborough Evening Cricket League gets underway on Tuesday May 1. Division A is made up of the same eight teams as the 2016 season with Flixton A and Cloughton A relegated at the end of last season and Ganton and Scalby A being promoted.
Staxton A will be hoping to hold onto the league champions shield under the captaincy of Linden
Gray.
The Linda Goulding Memorial Harburn Cup will as always be a very competitively fought contest with current holders Staxton A playing last year’s runners-up Ebberston A away in the first round. Division B also looks to be very competitive but both teams relegated last year, Flixton and Cloughton, will probably start favourites for promotion. The Hunter Cup is the competition for the Division B teams with last year’s winners Scarborough drawn away against Cloughton B in the first round.
Division C will see Wykeham B and Cayton B in this division following relegation from Division B at the end of last season and both will be hoping to get back up into that division this season.
Favourites for promotion are likely to be Flixton B under the guidance of their manager John Ward as they finished in third position last year with a very young side, who will have matured enough to make a serious challenge this time around. The Lloyd Dowson
Cricket Cup is the cup competition for the Division C teams and was won by Scalby B last season.
They have a bye into the second round this year and will play Forge Valley B away.
The final is at Flixton on Tuesday July 24.
