he spectacular Tour de Yorkshire will hit Scarborough, Filey and Ryedale on Saturday with extra events lined up for the day.

The fourth running of the race will feature British cycling legend Mark Cavendish and stars from the cycling world.

In addition to big screens on Sandside and Royal Albert Drive, which will be showing live televised footage of the race, the borough council will be putting on family activities.

It has also partnered with cycling groups to put on events over the last kilometre of the route to the finish line, which will highlight Scarborough’s passion for cycling.

Located in the Open Air Theatre, along Peasholm Gap and on North Bay beach, a Family Fun Zone offering free of charge activities will get under way at noon and run throughout the afternoon.

The Open Air Theatre will be ideal for families with younger children with teacup and chair-o-plane rides, trampolines and castle, inflatable slide, face painting and balloon modelling. On the Peasholm Gap piazza area there will be an Extreme Mountain Bike Show performing daring and spectacular stunts during the afternoon.

Also on Peasholm Gap there will be a free climbing wall and North Yorkshire County Council Road Safety with 95 Alive Partnership and Scarborough Sea Life Centre will be exhibiting. Close by, a pop-up cocktail and gin bar will be open for business.

A free crazy combat inflatable assault course will be located on the beach and further along Royal Albert Drive coffee and prosecco bars will be selling hot and chilled drinks.

Saturday’s Stage 3 of the Tour is due to arrive at about 5.26pm but timings can vary. The riders will have set off 180km away, from Richmond at 1.20pm.
