Nursery gets second inadequate report

But Happy Days Nursery is now ‘good’ in two of four areas

from the Ofsted report we have improved our teaching practices and outcomes for children which are now a ‘good’.

“Some things did get brought up and we have actually put everything in place yet again. We are just continuing to strengthen our practices.”

The inspection found the nursery was inadequate in the categories personal development, behaviour and welfare, and effectiveness of the leadership and management.

The report said the provider has not addressed one of the actions raised at the last inspection to improve standards and that the management team does not organise the premises in a way that meets the needs of the children.

The baby room particularly does not meet minimum space requirements and there is little free space for babies to move, says the report.

It added: “The management team has failed to recognise that they do not meet requirements and that the available space is not enough for the children.”

The inspection also found issues with hand washing and children sharing the same bedding.

Kerry Holder, who carried out the Ofsted inspection, said: “Weaknesses in the leadership and management, as well as staff care practices, significantly compromise children’s health and safety.

“Staff do not follow adequate health and hygiene practices that reduce the risk of cross-infection and germs from spreading.”

Ofsted issued Happy Days Nursery with a Welfare Requirements Notice to address the issues.

The nursery spokesperson added: “We’ve had the area’s adviser coming round again to say that everything again is in place and there’s been a lot of positive steps forward.

“There are improvements since their last visit. We are good – unfortunately there were just a couple of things, which we actually do, which were pulled up.

“A couple of the parents have actually put in a complaint to Ofsted. They feel it’s unfair and that there children are happy and healthy.

“They felt they didn’t like how it was carried out, the parents who spoke to the Ofsted inspector.

“They have said that their children are happy and they have no concerns.”

Staff were praised for the good behaviour of the children, aged up to four years old, as well as their enthusiastic approach to stimulate and motivate all children to learn.

The inspection also found all children make good progress in their learning and development.
