YOUR INVITATION TO ROYAL WEDDING PARTIES
Events held for retired people and families
Wedding bells will be ringing on Saturday as Prince Harry and his fiancée Meghan Markle tie the knot in Windsor.
And Scarborough’s Charlie Davies and his mum Natalie will be heading down to Windsor Castle as part of 2,640 members of the public invited to their big day. Charlie, 16, is a Lord Lieutenant cadet.
For the rest of Scarborough there will be ways to celebrate the royal occasion. Retired people in Scarborough are invited to join homeowners at Alder View Court Retirement Living development in Newby Farm Road, to raise a toast for the royal couple at a celebratory event on Saturday.
A Champagne brunch will take place from 11am to 2pm.
For the younger generation, there will be a children’s ‘make and take’ at Scarborough’s revamped Market Hall on the day.
Children from the age of three will be able to celebrate by creating their own crowns, tiaras, flags and bunting. The event runs from 10am to 2pm and is free to attend.
There will be a garden party in Eastfield on the big day. Shortly after the happy couple tie the knot, the party in the grounds of Holy Nativity Church, off Westway, will get into full swing.
“Street parties used to bring communities together and that’s what our party will be about,” said curate the Rev Mary Jobling. “They are a wonderful tradition.” There will be an American BBQ and an English tea, non-alcoholic drinks, decorations and party games starting at 2.30pm.
The royal couple have invited 600 guests, with an extra 200 at the evening reception.
