Scarborough Market Hall and Vaults have won a prestigious award for outstanding architecture.
Designed by Group Ginger, the refurbished market has won the Royal Institute of British Architects Award along with six other buildings.
Alex Richards, Scarborough Borough Council’s economic development project manager, worked closely with teams throughout the project.
He said: “Group Ginger were excellent to work with, very adaptive and very able to listen and take on board people’s views.
“We are very pleased to have received the awar. Hopefully it goes somewhat to demonstrate the amount of effort that the whole team put into it.
“It really has been a team effort with the council, council members, the architects, the builders and the founders – the Coastal Communities fund really helped.”
The award recognises buildings’ architectural excellence and Yorkshire winners will also be considered for a highly-coveted Royal Institute of British Architects National Award, announced on June 21.
Cllr Bill Chatt said: “I think people are impressed as soon as they walk through the door.
“I think Group Ginger were absolutely phenomenal and as a council it was very easy to work with them.”
