Try something new in festival of learning

Libraries to host a number of different sessions

Staff at libraries across North Yorkshire are hoping to inspire people of all ages to have a go at something new during the Festival of Learning from Tuesday 19 June to Monday 25 June.

Co-ordinated by the National Learning and Work Institute and supported by the Department

the active for Education, aim of the festival is to inspire people nationwide into lifelong learning for the positive and transforma­tional effect it can have on lives.

North Yorkshire County Councillor Greg White, executive member for libraries, said: “North Yorkshire libraries will have something for everyone, whether you already love to learn, are thinking about learning something new or are involved in organising learning activities for others.

“If you want to keep your mind active or learn with others from your community, visit a library close to you.”

Festival events include:

Eastfield Library

Tuesday 19 June, 3.30pm-4.30pm – Family Crafts: dropin session.

Wednesday, 20 June – Ancestry for Beginners.

Friday, 22 June, 3.30pm-4.30pm – Family Crafts.

Malton Library

Monday 18 June, 2.15pm-4.30pm, and Friday, 22 June, 10.30am-12.30pm – IT Support session.

Tuesday, 19 June, 4pm-7pm – Family History Support: Oneto-one family history support.

Saturday 23 June, 10am- noon – Skill Sharing Bonanza: drop-in and try some thing new with a variety of free taster sessions.

Pickering Library

18-23 June – Bee Spectacula­r: A variety of bee-themed activities will be held.

Tuesday 19 June, noon-2pm – Beekeeping informatio­n session.

Thursday 21 June, 5pm7pm – Meet the beekeeper.

Thursday 21 June, 1.30pm 3.30pm – Craft and Chat.

Scarboroug­h Library

Monday 18 June, 2.30pm-4.30pm; Tuesday 19 June, 9am noon; Wednesday 20 June, 10am-2pm; Thursday 21 June, 10am-noon; and Saturday 23 June, noon-3pm – IT Support sessions.
