Council backs first stage of car cruise ban due to risk of ‘fatalities’

He was backed by Cllr Bill Chatt (Ind) who added: “It is time to tell these people that they are not welcome here.”
Speaking in March when the PSPO was proposed Insp Graeme Kynman, of North Yorkshire Police, said it was evident that some of those attending the weekend event were driving dangerously.
“We simply could not take the risk posed to the many adults and children who were enjoying the sunshine and entertainment in the area,” he said.
“The safety of pedestrians has to be a priority.”
At a Static Royals event last year a driver caused £50,000 worth of damage to the road by burning out his tyres.

Phil Hibbard: “The council should team up with Static Royals, and create a spectator event. I’m sure people would like to see some of the modifications made.”
