EYMS sold to new operator

East Yorkshire Motor Services has been sold to bus operator Go North East.

EYMS, which was establishe­d in 1926, has been acquired by the bus operator which is part of Go-Ahead Group Plc.

Peter Shipp, owner of EYMS, said: “At the age of 74 and after 56 years in the bus industry I think it is time for me to handover the business and I am delighted to be doing so to an organisati­on with such a strong reputation caring for its people, customers and communitie­s. It has the scale required to invest in the assets, both people and buses, to take EYMS forward in a healthy and successful way.”

EYMS will operate as a stand-alone company within Go North East, overseen by its executive director team.

David Brown, group chief executive of Go-Ahead, said: “Bringing companies like EYMS into the Group draws us evercloser to our vision of a world where every journey is taken care of, while meeting our strategic objective of building a sustainabl­e business that meets the needs of our customers and communitie­s.”
