Celebrations as school moves up the Ofsted rankings
Children and staff at Filey Junior School are celebrating after being rated as Good by inspection body Ofsted. In 2016 the school was rated as ‘Needing Improvement’ so there was lots to celebrate. The inspector’s report noted: “Leaders have successfully addressed the areas for improvement identified in the previous inspection report. As a result, the school is now good.
”The headteacher has established a clear vision for the school. The staff share this vision. “Leaders, including governors, have high expectations for the pupils in all areas of school life, including in the wider curriculum. “Behaviour at the school, both in lessons and in the playground, is a strength of the school. “Pupils show respect towards others and support each other well. “Pupils are independent and resilient. They see challenge as a positive aspect of learning.” The report also highlighted areas in which the school needs to continue to improve.
It adds: “In order to improve it needs to keep addressing inconsistencies in the teaching of reading.”
