Final event for car cruisers in Scarboro’
A ‘final’ car cruise in Scarborough went off without incident as modified car owners showed their defiance to plans to ban them from the town.
A special event will celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Scarborough Fair Collection.
This Sunday (June 24), all admission pricees will be halved to mark the special occasion.
The vintage transport side of the collection has grown in size over the last few years and the Scarborugh Fair Collection is now thought to have oone of the largest collections of mixed cehicles in the north of England.
To celebrate this and bring the attraction up to date the name has been changed to ‘The Scarborough Fair Collection and Vintage Transport Museum’.
Among the fairground related transport exhibits are huge showman’s steam traction engines and one of the collection’s star attractions is the ‘showman’s locomotive’ the ‘Iron Maiden’ from the 1960’s film of the same name.
This season, a fourth display hall has been opened at the museum. It houses the collection of farming exhibits including a line-up of 15 vintage tractors.
Also in the new exhibition hall is part of the museum’s collection of vintage commercial vehicles including a 1915 Napier double decker bus with authentic Scarborough ‘Town Tour’ destination boards and period advert.
The Scarborough Fair Collection and Vintage Transport Museum will be open 10am to 4pm from Wednesday to Sunday every week until Friday November 2. It will however be close on July 14, August 1 and August 11.
