The top two Hackness and Scarborough men’s teams both suffered frustrating defeats after their successes of last week.

The A team had to travel to Brandesburton, always a difficult fixture and lost a hardfought contest 6-3 in Division One of the Driffield and District League.

Top pairing Roger Amstell with Jake Rawlinson could have taken three sets but had to settle for the two.

Jim Mellor and Steve Mills took just one set with real chances to come home with more.

Young John Ellison and his partner Paul Reddish came home empty handed.

The Men’s B team had a similar result at their Hackness home losing out to a solid Driffield LTC A team in Division Two.

Stuart Hughes, the best player for the team so far, playing with Adam Tildsley, took two sets and Bryan Edwards with Paul Zac taking just the one. Mark White and partner Peter Lee had to settle for a nil return.

The good news is the Men’s C team continued their winning run in Division Five and look certain to go up a division.

They had to travel to local rivals Bridlington to play their C team and came away with an 8-1 victory.

Steve Brindle teamed up with Jon Conyers, Erkaits Inoue partnered the young Tom Hunt playing very good tennis after completing his exams.

Finally Steve Brennan, on a break from football, played with Christian Miners.

The Hackness and Scarborough Ladies followed a similar pattern.

The A team had an excellent 7-2 win away at Harpham A in Division Two.

They had a very strong team with young Jamie Lee Thornton partnering Louise Tomlinson, the hard hitting Harriet May playing with Helen Neal and Heather Forbes partnering Zoe Hill.

The ladies B team suffered a set back losing 5-4 at home to Harpham B in Division Five.

This was a hard-fought encounter with the result resting on two tie breaks, both of which the home team lost so the match could not have been closer.

Jilly Pigg and partner Chris Barnard had a good evening taking two sets as did Rachel Hartley and Sally Jubb. Julie Stephenson with Ann Schmuck just lost out including one of the tie breaks.

Filey men got back to winning ways travelling to face Middleton B especially with the return of Alex Warters from university.

He played with his brother Jacob and together they made a real difference.

They took three sets as did the experienced pair of Ian McHale and David Hudghton.

John Sellers and Kevin Brown backed up the other two duos with a solid display.

Filey Ladies on the other hand suffered quite a bad defeat for them.

They went down without taking a set against a very strong Market Weighton B team in Division Three at home.

Sue Robson played with her usual partner Sarah Umpleby, Rachel Philliskirk played with Lindy Snaith and new pair Hara Davis was with Julie Collings.

Despite this setback the team are still mid-table at the turnaround.

With the men without a fixture, Scalby were represented by their new mixed team who are going well and remain unbeaten in Division Five in the mixed section of the league.

They had to travel to Pocklington to meet their E team and had an easy victory winning 9-0.

Bobby McNamara partnered Jamie Lee Thornton, Matt Thundercliffe played with Win Calvert and Kevin Wood joined up with Avril Kendal.
