Sides all ready for thrilling semi clashes

-

The two semi-finals of the Scarborough areas most prestigious cricket cup competition take place tonight and tomorrow night.

The cup competition is run by the AndyHire Scarborough Evening League and is for Division A teams and is the Linda Goulding Memorial Harburn Cup.

The semi-finals always produce excellent close games and this year is not likely to be an exception.

The first semi-final takes place tonight and will be played at the Flixton CC with a 6.15pm start.

The semi is a repeat of last years semi-final when Staxton play Filey.

Last year Staxton won and went on to win the cup but this year Filey should start favourites as they are top of the league and unbeaten so far this season in evening cricket.

Both sides have excellent players with Staxton’s batsman Rob Pinder and captain and all-rounder Linden Gray.

Filey have their young Australian all-rounder Tom Fitzgerald in excellent form as well as captain Aaron Howard, who is scoring a lot of runs along with Josh Dawson.

The umpires for this game are Steve Dodds and Bernard Goulding.

The second semi-final takes place tomorrow and is to be played at Ebberston CC, again with a 6.15pm start.

This could also be quite close between Heslerton the 2016 cup winners and Wykeham, who Heslerton beat in the 2016 final.

Hesleton are mid-table in the league, but have some excellent players led by captain and pace bowler Adam Spaven and their all-rounder Kristian Wilkinson.

Wykeham are led by batsman Ethon Pashby and will have all-rounder Jack Holt in their team.

The umpires for this game are Stuart Barker and Bernard Goulding.

There will be a raffles held at these two games for league funds and the final of the cup will be held at North Marine Road on Friday July 13.
