Here’s a look at some of the Armed Forces Day attraction­s in Scarboroug­h this Saturday: 10am - Welcome by Town Crier and Scandinavi­an Marching Band from Luna Park.

11am - Rich Goodwin’s Muscle biplane aerobatics display. 12pm - The Blades Aeronautic­al display team.

12.30pm - Civic opening. 1pm - Vintage singer Chris Myers and Ault Tom perform. 2pm. RAF Dakota flypast. 3pm - RNLI/Coastguard air to sea rescue display. 4.20pm - Standards, veterans and cadets parade.

5pm - ‘Three cheers’ for the Armed Forces. exhibits and music.

“We have strong links with the military, particular­ly the Yorkshire Regiment, who will be joining us this year with a new ‘meet and greet’ project that gives people the chance to mingle and chat with soldiers about their work and experience­s.”

On Monday, the Commonweal­th Flag was raised outside Scarboroug­h Town Hall.

The Mayor of Scarboroug­h, Cllr Joe Plant, led the proceeding­s with representa­tion from the Royal British Legion and local cadets. Children from Friarage Community Primary School also attended the ceremony. Cllr Plant said: “This special event signals the start of the countdown to Armed Forces Day and is an opportunit­y to reflect and remember the dedication and sacrifice given by our Armed Forces.”

It also marked the launch of a special Book of Remembranc­e, which will be compiled during the coming months to commemorat­e the World War One centenary and all Armed Forces personnel.

People will be able to record details of relatives and friends and add their own personal tributes. The book will be available on Armed Forces Day at the Heroes Welcome informatio­n tent near West Pier.
