Thieves raid Skills Village
Around £5,500 worth of tools have been stolen from Scarborough’s Skills Village – which was set up to train young people.
Between5pmonWednesday 4 July and 9am on Thursday 5 July, a shipping container was broken in to at the Construction Skills Village in Eastfield.
The skills village has been training young people in Scarborough in various construction roles.
John Pownall, of the Skills Village, said: “At first we thought the learners wouldn’t be able to complete their tasks without the equipment.
“That’s what hurts the most and has affected our staff. We have been set up to support the local community and help bring in new skills.
“Most of the learners have now achieved that and we are operating as normal. Thanks to a quick response we have been able to get enough equipment together.”
A spokesman for North Yorkshire Police said: “The offender(s) gained entry by burning or cutting the lock off. Approximately £5,500 worth of power tools were taken.
“The investigation to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident is ongoing.”
