Scarboroug­h storm to promotion in Barnsley

Youngsters hit top form to move into Division One of Track & Field League

Twenty-one of Scarboroug­h Athletic Club’s junior athletes took part in the final Yorkshire Track & Field League match in Barnsley.

Having taken an overall lead after winning the second match, and then increasing the lead after a decisive win in the third round, the team were favourites to win the league title.

However they made certain of the title at the first attempt after joining the league this year when winning the match by a huge margin, and therefore gaining immediate promotion to Division One.

In addition, Hannah Sellers-Drury, Joseph Semourson, Jack Tunnicliff­e and Alfie Willis were selected to represent the league in an Inter League meeting based on their results over the season.

Five of the club’s athletes won all three of their maximum number of events. Another had two wins and seven achieved one win.

In addition, almost all achieved personal bests in some of their events.

The meeting ended on a winning note when the Under-13 Boys won the 4x100 metre relay, and the Un- der-15 Girls won both the 4x100mand 4x300m relays, and increase their massive match points total of 420 with the runner-up club Holmfirth Harriers scoring 163 points.

The top scorer of the Under-13 boys was Joseph Semourson, who won all his events with PBs, namely the 80m, 150m and Long Jump.

Simon Jenkinson won the 800m and Shot with PBs.

Logan Lambert won the 1500m and was the runner up in both the Shot with a PB and Long Jump.

Simon Semourson backed up his older brother with third places and PBs in the 80 and 150m.

In the Under-13 girls, the top scorer was Hannah Sellers-Drury, who won all her events with PBs, these were the 75m, High Jump and Long Jump.

Talia Lambert won the 800m and was the runnerup in the Long Jump and the 150 metres with a PB.

Rosa Clay was third in the 75m and 150m, in which she achieved a PB.

The top scorer of the Under-15 boys was Jack Tunnicliff­e, as he won all his events with PBs, namely the 100m, 200m and Shot.

Riley Metcalfe was the winner of the High Jump and third Discus with PBs in both events, while Alfie Willis was the runner up in the Discus and 100mwith PBs in both events.

The top scorer of the Under-15 girls, which with eight members was the largest of the five club age groups, was Jessica Raw who won the 100m, High Jump and 75m Hurdles in a PB time.

Saphia Wade won the 200mand was third in the Hammer with PBs in both.

Danielle Raw achieved a win and PBs in her three events. She won the Shot and was second in the Discus and fourth in the 200m.

Aelish Rowntree won the Discus with a PB and was second in the Shot and 100m equalling her PB.

Laura Dove achieved a hattrick of PBs, bagging second in the Long Jump, as well as third in the 75m and 1500m.

Emma Willis achieved a brace of PBs with a third in the Long Jump and fifth in the 800m.

Millie Wilson added to the team score with third places in the 300m and 800m.

Issy Nicholls contribute­d with a runner-up result in the 1500m and ran a leg of the winning 4x300 metres relay team.

The top scorer of the Under-17 girls was Ebony Cooper, who won with PBs in the 300m and Shot, plus a Discus victory.

Daisy Willis won the 100m and was the runner-up in the 200m and Shot with a PB.

Isabel Louth won the Triple Jump and was third in both the 100 and 200m.

The meeting ended on a winning note when the Under-13 Boys won the 4x100 metre relay, and the Under-15 Girls won both the 4x100 metres and 4x300 metres relays

Michaela Wilson Sharon Houghton, Dolly Willis, Chris Wade officiated at the meeting and achieved the maximum points for participat­ion of officials.
