Scalby Ladies finish with Pocklingto­n win

Scalby Ladies had a super Driffield League win in the last match of the season, beating Pocklingto­n B at home 6-3 and ensuring them an excellent placing in the first division.

Jackie Speakman and Lynn Day won their three sets making them probably the most successful local pairing of the season.

They were once again very well supported by Mandy Hillier and Jane Stockdale, who won two sets and not to be left out Sue Kendall and Sue Jackson took one set.

This ranks as one of the best seasons for the ladies at the Scalby club.

Both Hackness & Scarboroug­h ladies teams had to travel with only two couples.

The A team went to Bridlingto­n A with a reduced team and to their credit only went down 5-4.

Helen Reay played with Maaike Karrenmans and Heather Forbes with Helen Neal as both pairs won two sets a piece.

The team have had a good campaign and are likely to just miss out on promotion to the top division.

The Ladies B team travelled to Market Weighton D for a Division Five match.

Their last match could have been a little dishearten­ing, but the team kept their spirits up despite failing to win a set.

Jilly Pigg partnered Jean Blenkiron and Christine Berable was with Anne Schmuck.

Scalby Mixed team on their first season in the league have had a very good start and remain unbeaten in Division Five.

They had to travel to play their latest victims Bridlingto­n B and all the Scalby pairs won three sets.

Avril Kendall partnered Ken Wood, Matt Thunder c li ffe played with Win Calvert and Bobby McNamara formed a particular­ly strong pair with Jamie Lee Thornton.
