Dear Reader

St Catherine’s Hospice is close to the hearts of many people in Scarborough and along the Yorkshire coast. But for those who don’t have an involvement, or know much about it – or think that “someone else” will put in the effort – then next week is the time to take action. The hospice – just like scores around the country – needs every penny and every bit of help it can get. Every year it has to raise £5.5m through fundraising – £10,000 every day. Seventy per cent of that comes through the generosity of individuals, corporate partners and organisations. Currently, 30 or so hardy souls are trekking in the Atlas Mountains in Morocco to raise funds. In Hospice Care Week, 8-14 October, St Catherine’s is encouraging the public to support it by donating, offering to volunteer, or helping however they can. There’s an open day, recruitment event and much more. See page 11, and our website for personal stories of some of those who’ve been helped.
