Southwick tackles Mountain Rescue Marathon event

A record number of 15 club members competed in three trail races that were staged by the Scarboroug­h and Ryedale Mountain Rescue Team as a fundraiser.

The various courses consisted of routes around Dalby Forest, the North Yorkshire Moors, Levisham, Saltergate and Bridestone­s.

Andy Southwick was the only club member tackling a testing marathon distance at which he finished up in 29th overall in 5 hours 47 minutes.

Eleven club members competed in the half marathon, at which which Matt Middleton finished fourth overall in 104.51.

He was followed by Alan Whelan, who was fifth overall in 107.16.

Nikki Hanson was the first of the club’s six females after finishing 9th female overall in 147.35.

Other male overall race results: D Walls 16th, N Coombes 38th, D Parke 73rd.

Other female results in gender order: H Coates 13th, N Doody 24th, C Pelucci 34th, S Gothard 46th, H Weston 47th.

In the 10-kilometre event, new club member Hikari Yamaguchi was third female overall in 60.05.

Louise Milne followed in 25th and Melanie Padgham was 40th.

Three club members of the same family took part in the Sherwood Forest Parkrun.

All three achieved good results in their age groups.

Alan Keenan was first Over-70, Pat Keenan second Over-65 and their daughter Linda Hinchliffe was fourth Over-45.
