Support your local shops – use them or lose them!

The Kirkbymoorside Shopping Guide sets out where you can get your quirkiest shopping needslk, from a hand-painted coffin to 34 sorts of gin!

The Kirkbymoorside Environment Group (KMEG) has recently published the sixth edition of The Kirkbymoorside Shopping Guide, a street-by-street guide to the goods and services available in the town.

It us much more than just a list of shops but rather a guide that makes it easy to find which shops sell particular items.

An array of products can be found within Kirkbymoorside, from horse-jump poles, home-made cakes, contemporary sculpture, incense, equity release, celebrity face-masks or a new umbrella – which makes the guide a great investment for a simple shopping experience.

Although an abundance of shops to choose from, it is highlighted that “there are actually about 40 [shops] and together with the market on Wednesdays they cover most everyday needs.”

Our Love Your High Street campaign was launched last week, that urges shoppers to support the local shops on the high street.

In the guide it states: “The spirit behind the Guide is an expression of support by KMEG, and much of the town population, to show that we appreciate and love our high street, and the personal service it offers. There are so few towns left in the UK which can offer so much.

“Shopping locally keeps local money circulating in the local economy, rather than ending up in the pockets of remote corporations.

“And it really is quicker than looking up things like opening times up on your phone.”

The Kirkbymoorside Environment Group has also highlighted for this edition what shops are doing to help the environment and reduce plastic waste.

Helpful tips are also included to encourage what you can do to reduce plastic, such as taking a reusable shopping bag or using your own containers which you can fill and refill when buying food items.

As well as shops the guide also lists the 150 clubs and organisations within Kirkbymoorside.

The cost of printing and distribution of the guide has been assisted by North Yorkshire County Council, Kirkbymoorside Town Council and Moors Gateway Rotary.
