Scarborough Hockey Club 1sts beat Huddersfield Dragons 2nds 6-0 thanks to a hat-trick from Anthony Allison.

Scarborough Hockey Club’s 1sts picked up a superb 6-0 win away at Huddersfield Dragons 2nds on Saturday.

Captain Rikki Lawrence, back after a injury, scored one of the goals and guided his team to a great victory.

There was a fine hat-trick from Anthony Allison with James Bryant and Chris Tait getting the other goals.

Hamish Hudson was player of the match with a great game at full-back, offering a lot going forward as well as solid defensive work.

There were great debuts from new signings Dom Coates, Tom Brough and Ryan Jacobs.

Scarborough are in fifth place just five points behind the leaders in Yorkshire Hockey Association Division Three.

The first team are not in action this coming Saturday due to no fixture.

In Division Five North,

Scarborough 2nds played City of York Mens 8ths away from home.

The final score was 4-1 to York, but for most of the game it was quite an even contest, with Scarborough pressing and defending well and regularly getting the ball into the opponent’s half of the field.

Midfielder Javier Sanchez was the scorer of the only goal - his first for the club - and he got the team’s player of the match vote.

Sanchez’s effort was a welltaken goal after a long pass from Paul Witty set James Stacey free down the right to run at the stranded York defence, with only one defender back, Stacey passed the ball to Sanchez, who took his goal well.

Scarborough defended as a unit when York applied pressure on goal.

Jack Breese, Kev Stacey, Paul and Joseph Witty all had an excellent game in defence.

Benjamin Colling produced a series of wonderful saves in the Scarborough goal.

Charlie Meatheringham and Isaac Barker also played very well, but sadly striker Jay Meatheringham, only just back from injury, endured a re-occurrence of a hamstring problem.

This left the seconds without any more substitutes and the team tired against a very young York team.

Yet again, the end result didn’t reflect Scarborough’s performance as everybody put 100% effort into the match.

The seconds are at home to Acomb Men’s 2nd this week.

Scarborough Ladies lost 4-1 away to Sheffield Hallam 3rds with Zoe Harrison the scorer of their only goal.

Although Scarborough Ladies experienced a loss, in many ways it seemed liked a victory.

Playing the top team in the league with no substitutes, the ladies worked together in the best display of team work they’ve seen this season.

The goal scored was due to excellent passing, communication and positioning by the majority of the team.

Being commended by the opposing team as having some of the best passing they’ve seen made the team proud.

Scarborough’s ladies are next in action on the road at Leeds University this weekend as they look to bounce back with a win.
