They say ‘save the best for last’ ... but the buzz around Scarborough after Kylie Minogue was the first act to be announced for the 2019 Open Air Theatre season will leave people wondering who else will be coming!

Maybe we should be so lucky ... but the Kylie booking is another huge coup for the venue, which this year brought Britney Spears to Scarborough.

Kylie, famedforhitssuchas Can’t Get You Out Of My Head

and Spinning Around, will play the Open Air Theatre on Thursday August 1. On the same day as that announcement, it was revealed that Sir Cliff Richard will return to the venue on Wednesday June 26, after a sell-out show in 2017.

Tickets for Kylie go on sale tomorrow at 9am via www. scarboroughopenairtheatre. com or from Scarborough Open Air Theatre Box Office (01723 818111) and the Discover Yorkshire Coast Tourism Bureau (01723 383636).

Tickets to see Sir Cliff Richard go on sale at 10am on Sunday from the same places.

Peter Taylor, director of promoters Cuffe and Taylor, said: “We have been delighted by the reaction to our first two announcements for 2019. Kylie and Cliff are legends and we cannot wait to bring these two pop icons here to this wonderful venue. These are the first of many major announcements we will be making over the coming weeks and months. 2018 was a sensational year at the OAT and we feel sure music fans in Yorkshire, and indeed around the UK who come to shows here, will like what we have coming up next.

“Watch this space as we have some major news coming very soon!”

Cllr Martin Smith, Scarborough Council’s portfolio holder for leisure and tourism, said: “I think it is wonderful news that we are getting Sir Cliff back again and also Kylie – it’s a good start to what will be a wonderful season for us next year. Absolutely fantastic news.

“I’m sure people will be flocking for tickets.”

The announcements sparked a huge reaction on Facebook, with one user saying: “It’s great to get such big artists to Scarborough again, well done OAT.”

Anotheradded, aboutKylie: “I think this may be the best announcement ever.”

Kylie’s recent shows as part of her ‘Golden’ UK arena tour have been met with widespread critical acclaim. “Quite frankly, she was breath-taking,” said Metro. ‘Golden’ is her sixth number one album.

Next summer’s show will see Kylie performing a series of career-spanning hits from her back catalogue.

Cliff ’s new album Rise Up will be released on November 23. He has achieved 14 number one singles and seven number one albums.
