What’s all this sleigh business? Santa will ditch his reindeer-powered transport and instead arrive at Saturday’s event by fishing boat at approximately 10.30am. He will make his way from West Pier up through the town centre to take up residence in his grotto at Boyes store. The grotto will open to the public when he arrives, which is expected to be between noon and 12.30pm. It’s a tradition that’s been going on for decades. Yorkshire Coast College Band will be joining in the fun as well.

3 1,568 Sawdust Hearts

Woodend Gallery, Scarborough

The exhibition is commemorating the centenary of Armistice Day and the origins of occupational therapy, and raising funds for Combat Stress, the veterans mental health charity. The project took as its starting point, the

inspirational work instigated by Queen Mary at the end of WW1, namely Sweetheart Pincushions, which were pinned by soldiers as part of their convalescence. 1,568 sawdust-filled calico hearts were made and distributed to be embroidered and pinned by artists, needle workers and crafters from all over the country. All 1,568 hearts are now been curated into a exhibition at Woodend, which is on to November 30. The exhibition will be accompanied by original music by John Pattison.

As well as the exhibition and two special events, there will be a full-colour catalogue which has images of all 1,568 hearts, together with the name of the person who decorated it, background information about the

project and original poetry and a playscript, which have all been commissioned for the project.

Formed in the summer of 2016 by Gareth Taylor, a former physics teacher from West Yorkshire, and four fresh-faced music graduates, Bulsara and His Queenies put their popularity down to their world-class musicianship and uncanny ability to convince their audiences that they are listening to an actual Queen recording.

The band takes pleasure out of not wearing cheap replica costumes and wigs, as many of the other tribute acts do. Instead they focus their energy on a truly remarkable musical performance of Queen’s studio tracks.
