Splash­ing out cash from lake races

Mayor of Scar­bor­ough, Cllr Joe Plant, pre­sented che­ques to a num­ber of lo­cal char­i­ties on be­half of the Ro­tary Club of Scar­bor­ough Cava­liers.

The Ro­tary Club’s pre­sen­ta­tion evening was held at the Downe Arms Coun­try Inn, Wyke­ham.

Funds were raised over the year in­clud­ing at the club’s eighth an­nual dragon boat rac­ing at Wyke­ham Lakes in June which has raised over £70,000 since it be­gan in 2010. Boat spon­sors, pad­dlers and rep­re­sen­ta­tives from lo­cal char­i­ties at­tended the show­case which dis­trib­uted over £6,000 to the cho­sen char­i­ties.

The cho­sen char­i­ties for the Ro­tary Club’s dona­tions are: PDSA, York­shire Air Am­bu­lance, Hear­ing Dogs for Deaf Peo­ple, YMCA Scar­bor­ough, King­fisher Swim­ming Club, Richard Fox Me­mo­rial Club, Just for Wil­liam, Scar­bor­ough Talk­ing News, Scar­bor­ough Hospi­tal Chemo­ther­apy De­part­ment, Whitby Wildlife Sanc­tu­ary, Wil­lows Lull Chil­dren’s Char­ity, 739 Squadron ATC, Scar­bor­ough Sa­mar­i­tans, Liam Critch­ett’s Next Step, Saint Cather­ine’s, Rain­bow Cen­tre and Macmil­lan Can­cer Sup­port.

Dial a Ride , Spring­head School, SASH and Scar­bor­ough Sur­vivors have also been se­lected by the club as the char­i­ties for this year’s fo­cused sup­port.
