Splashing out cash from lake races

Mayor of Scarboroug­h, Cllr Joe Plant, presented cheques to a number of local charities on behalf of the Rotary Club of Scarboroug­h Cavaliers.

The Rotary Club’s presentati­on evening was held at the Downe Arms Country Inn, Wykeham.

Funds were raised over the year including at the club’s eighth annual dragon boat racing at Wykeham Lakes in June which has raised over £70,000 since it began in 2010. Boat sponsors, paddlers and representa­tives from local charities attended the showcase which distribute­d over £6,000 to the chosen charities.

The chosen charities for the Rotary Club’s donations are: PDSA, Yorkshire Air Ambulance, Hearing Dogs for Deaf People, YMCA Scarboroug­h, Kingfisher Swimming Club, Richard Fox Memorial Club, Just for William, Scarboroug­h Talking News, Scarboroug­h Hospital Chemothera­py Department, Whitby Wildlife Sanctuary, Willows Lull Children’s Charity, 739 Squadron ATC, Scarboroug­h Samaritans, Liam Critchett’s Next Step, Saint Catherine’s, Rainbow Centre and Macmillan Cancer Support.

Dial a Ride , Springhead School, SASH and Scarboroug­h Survivors have also been selected by the club as the charities for this year’s focused support.
