Ruby mixing with the stars on Sky News show
From chatting to X-Factor hopefuls one day to the Deputy Commissioner of London Metropolitan Police the next, it’s just an average week in the life of a national news reporter, right?
But what if we were to tell you that this reporter was just 12 years old and already had her segment on a Sky News show?
Well, that’s the case with Ruby Chapman, of Scarborough, who is currently a shining light on Sky News’ weekend kids’ show ‘FYI: For Your Info’.
Budding reporter Ruby appears on the show, broadcast every Saturday morning at 10.30am and Sunday morning at 11.30am, in her very own section’Ruby Reports’, in which she covers a number of different issues.
However, this isn’t Ruby’s first reporting role. Her first job was in a Department of Education film about the average life of a 10 year old in the UK, before she found her way to First News, with whom she visited Manchester City’s training ground and interviewed people who work with the juniors there.
Allofthiscametogetherfor her Sky News audition tape, and landed her the job, following her live auditions.
Commenting on her success, St Augustine’s School pupil Ruby said: “I love it, it’s a new experience every single week and I get to meet some really interesting people.”
And those people, to date, have been some of showbiz’s biggest names, and some of the UK’s key figures.
So far, Ruby has flossed with Cheryl, interviewed this year’s X-Factor hopefuls Acacia and Aaliyah and sat down with the Deputy Commis- sioner of London Metropolitan Police about the 100-year anniversary of women being allowed in the police force.
Earlier in the year she went to Fulham FC’s training ground and interviewed celebrities who were training for Soccer Aid, even getting Mo Farah to do the floss in the process.
Her nationwide storytelling found its way back home, too, with Ruby also doing an environmental piece at Scarborough Sea Life Centre.
Dad Luc Chapman said: “People always tell me how well she is doing but you don’t want to say too much because obviously I’m biased. But when I saw her first show I just thought ‘what a little star’.”
Mum Laura Romans added: “We’re so unbelievably proud of Ruby, she’s always been one to perform and it’s fantastic to see her doing something she loves.”
