This Sun­day morn­ing wor­ship at 10.30am will be a joint ser­vice to be held at Wrey­field Drive Methodist Church, this will be led by the Rev Emma Mor­gan.

There will be no ser­vice at Scalby Methodist Church this week.

Sweet Pea Cal­en­dar

The 2019 Sweet Pea Cal­en­dar is now avail­able in most re­tail out­lets in Scalby vil­lage.

Fea­tur­ing lo­cal views, it costs £4 with all the money raised go­ing to­wards the refurbishment and gen­eral up­keep of the toi­lets.

WI meet­ing

A rous­ing cho­rus of Jerusalem was ac­com­pa­nied by the Ukulele Band at the last meet­ing in the year of the Scalby and Newby WI.

Mem­bers and guests were wel­comed by their new pres­i­dent, Pam Ca­ton. It was de­cided that mem­bers miss­ing a meet­ing would be sent a copy of the min­utes to keep them up to date.

The new com­mit­tee were in­tro­duced with their re­spec­tive roles and a del­e­gate was sought for the spring coun­cil meet­ing which will be held at The Spa.

The 2019 Res­o­lu­tions were read out and mem­bers were urged to use the vot­ing form in the Life mag­a­zine. Mem­bers were re­minded about the Vale and Dale lunch on Wednes­day, De­cem­ber 19, and two events planned for the New Year which are a Health and Well­be­ing day at Ay­ton Vil­lage Hall in March and a cli­mate change dis­cus­sion at Stock­ton on For­est in Fe­bru­ary.

Af­ter fes­tive re­fresh­ments mem­bers were en­ter­tained by the Ukulele Band which had hands clap­ping and toes twitch­ing, cul­mi­nat­ing in mem­bers show­ing their off danc­ing skills.

Dates for your di­ary are: Catch Up, 12.30pm, Fri­day, Jan­uary 25, at Green­smith and Thack­eray’s café, 30 St Ni­cholas Street; Book Club, 10am, Tues­day, Jan­uary 29, at the home of Va­lerie; Craft Club, 2pm, Thurs­day, Jan­uary 10 at the Friends’ Meet­ing House.

The next gen­eral meet­ing will be on Mon­day, Jan­uary 28 at 7pm in the Friends’ Meet­ing House where guests and vis­i­tors will be wel­come.

The pres­i­dent wished ev­ery­one a Happy Christ­mas and a bright, healthy New Year.
