St Hilda’s

The East Riding pub was the venue for the annual ‘Sup and Sing’ service at the kind invitation of the landlord and landlady, John and Caroline. Organised by Barbara Grice, the music was supplied by Bill Hyndford, with the singing being led by his granddaughter Kayleigh, who also performed some solos. Carol Stephenson and Christine Ashton ran the raffle, which raised £109 for church funds. The Rev Joe Kinsella thanked John and Caroline, the helpers and everyone for their attendance.

The annual service of lessons and carols was held at the church. The Rev Joe Kinsella welcomed everyone and led the Lord’s Prayer and gave the Blessing at the close of the service.

The organist was Martin Monkman and sides-persons were Keith Usher and Barbara Grice. Lessons were read by Margaret Adams Christine Fenwick, Alex Thompson, Keith Usher, Betty Flinton and Chris Miles. Mince pies with tea and coffee was served at the close of the service by Jean Usher, Carol Stephenson and Christine Ashton.

Luncheon club

The hall was decorated, the nativity scene in place and everything was set for the Senior Citizen Luncheon Club’s Christmas lunch. Everyone enjoyed a beautiful meal.

Afterwards we sang Christmas carols, we did have fun with the 12 Days of Christmas. Thanks to India and Kiara Heron for making us a lovely banner telling us the story of the carol.

Father Christmas assisted by Mrs Christmas gave out gifts to everyone. Thanks go to all the team who worked so very hard to give us such a special afternoon.

Thanks to go to the parish council, represented at the lunch by Jason Peel who, dressed for the occasion, acted as our ‘wine’ waiter; and for the generous grant given to help finance this event.

The next meeting of the luncheon club will be on Wednesday, January 16. Meet from 12.30pm for lunch at 1pm.
