Meet little Millie ... the first baby to be born in 2019?
Was Millie Straker the first baby to be born in Britain in 2019? She made her dramatic arrival at Scarborough Hospital one minute past midnight on Tuesday, 10 days before she was expected.
Dad Jamie, of Queensgate, Bridlington, said: “She is probably the first in the country. All the staff and nurses were very excited, and they were all amazing.”
Millie was delivered by emergency Caesarean section and Jamie admits he was watching the clock while his wife Lucy was in labour. He said: “We had a concern at about 5pm so we drove through to Scarborough Hospital.
“They did a few checks and then it just escalated. It got to about 11.40pm and Lucy had gone into theatre and I was looking at the clock.”

Meet another New Year’s Day arrival at the hospital
Meet April Robinson, who was one of the babies born at Scarborough Hospital on New Year’s Day.
Mum Emma Robinson gave birth to her 7lb 6oz baby girl 11 days early as she was due on January 12. Talking about the special day, Emma said: “We are really happy and I think it’s a lovely day for a birthday.” April will join her four other siblings who are aged nine, seven, five and two and a half, at home in Malton. April’s arrival into the world wasn’t as expected as mum Emma was in hospital for 10 days prior to giving birth. “I just wanted to say a huge thank you to everyone at Scarborough Hospital as they have all been so friendly and lovely over Christmas,” Emma added.
