Why it pays to

#buyapaper!

- Show your support #buyapaper

We can’t thank you enough! That is the message we want to tell our readers, businesses, advertisers, community leaders and many, many supporters who shouted out loud and proud about the many reasons we should #Buyapaper.

Last week we launched a social media drive to showcase all the reasons why local newspapers have a special place in their community.

#BUYAPAPER

The #BuyAPaper campaign, launched by JPIMedia, made a splash on Twitter and even trended at the third-top spot across the UK.

Social media was full of praise for what makes local newspapers unique, whether it’s a campaign, in-depth sports analysis, heartbreaking human interest, crime, the latest reports from court or raising awareness of a plight and championing a cause affecting your community. Your Scarborough News is a vital source for the latest news on issues affecting you, and local papers across the country were picking up support as the online campaign reached a fever pitch.

Local newspapers and their websites are themost trusted providers of news in this country.

They are also fierce defenders of the communities they serve. However, to train journalists to the highest professional standards and to deliver the quality of writing and research on which readers rely costs money.

So across Britain, a new campaign has been launched, #buyapaper, which urges residents to purchase a copy of their local title every week. Our priorities are our communities – if it affects our readers we are interested. That means our content covers a huge range, from local events and the best what’s on guide to courts and council meetings. We champion the issues raised by our readers and highlight their achievements. In the digital age – when more information is available to us all than at any point in history – the reliability of that information is becoming more critical than ever.

We are not faceless or hard to find – we engage with our audience every day.

The Scarborough News is proud to be part of JPIMedia – a new company which bought the titles previously owned by JohnstonPress and on the right is a list of some of the ways your local newspaper is trying to make a positive difference to our community.

There are around 1,000 local media titles in the UK LOCAL MEDIA WORKS 2017 They are read by 42million adults in print and online YOUGOV 2018 This paper has been serving the town since 1882 @THESCARBORONEWS
