Thestars heading our way in 2019

In the last few years, Scarboroug­h has been treated to a whole host of famous faces visiting the town, with the likes of Britney Spears and Lionel Richie last year, and 2019 is going to be no different.

From appearing at the Scarboroug­h Open Air Theatre, to headlining the Scarboroug­h Sci-Fi or Books by the Beach Festival, there is somebody that everyone will want to see this year.

We’ve got singers and musicians, comedians, actors, illustrato­rs, TV legends and everything in between.

The Open Air Theatre started strongly, with the announceme­nt that Princess of Pop Kylie Minogue would be headlining the venue, followed closely by the return of music legend Sir Cliff Richard.

We’ve had a whole host of names confirmed so far for all of our venues, with more famous faces set to be announced in the coming weeks and months. We’ve taken a look at 10 of the biggest names that will be coming to the Yorkshire Coast this year.

KYLIE MINOGUE was the first act announced for the 2019 summer season at the Open Air Theatre, creating a huge buzz around Scarboroug­h, especially following Britney Spears’ appearance last year. She’ll play on Thursday August 1.

MICHAEL PALIN, part of the legendary comedy team Monty Python turned TV globetrott­er, will head to the Scarboroug­h Spa to headline Books By The Beach on April 14, talking guests through his new book Ecerbus, the Story of a Ship.

PETER ANDRE will head to the Scarboroug­h Spa on his latest tour, to celebrate 25 years since he burst on to the Australian music scene. The ‘Mysterious Girl’ singer will be playing at the Scarboroug­h Spa on Friday, March 8.

CLIFF RICHARD will return to the Open Air Theatre this year, after announcing the venue as part of his upcoming tour to promote his latest album. The 78-year-old music legend will play the arena on Wednesday June 26.

HENNING WEHN, the German comedian whose popularity has shot up since appearance­s on panel shows such as Mock The Week, brings his latest tour to the Scarboroug­h Spa this year, coming to the venue on December 9.

UB40, BIRMINGHAM’S worldfamou­s reggae band, are bringing their huge 40th anniversar­y tour to Scarboroug­h, treating fans to classic hits such as ‘Food For Thought’, ‘One In Ten’, ‘Kingston Town’ amongst many others on May 7.

WILLIE COPPEN, a star of Star Wars film Return of the Jedi, will be one of the leading names at the 2019 Scarboroug­h Sci-Fi Convention at the Spa, and will even be bringing his replica Ewok costume for photos. The convention takes place on April 6-7.

THE SPECIALS will be bringing their latest tour, a celebratio­n of the 40th anniversar­y of the band’s formation, along with their first new music in 37 years, to the seaside in May, preceding the UB40 gig, playing the venue on May 6.

JOOLS HOLLAND, the star of Hootenanny and Later with Jools Holland, will be kicking off the 2019 summer season at Scarboroug­h Spa, returning to play alongside his rhythm and blues orchestra. He will appear on May 16.

CHRIS RANKIN is best known for playing Percy Weasley in six of the Harry Potter films, starting in Harry Potter and the Philosophe­r’s Stone. His appearance in Scarboroug­h will come at Scarboroug­h Sci-Fi Convention, taking place April 6-7.
