Abdul Aziz, from Tikka Tikka on Castle Road, has been named ‘best curry chef ’ in the UK in this year’s Curry Life Awards. He had already been voted Chef of the Year in 2013.

Restaurant owner Kamal Hossain said: “I’ve got a lot of respect for Abdul. He leads the kitchen by example and has built a good team that serves up consistently good food.

“We all know how important good communication is and we have open and honest discussions about how to finetune and improve dishes.”

Abdul’s signature dishes include a tribute to his motherland, Bangladesh, in the shape of Cox Bazar Crab, Ostrich Jalpuri and Duck Tawa.

Kamal added: “Abdul loves experimenting with food and has no shortage of volunteers who want to try his new dishes. The fact that we are by the sea means we like to use local fish, with the Aziz twist of course.”

The award was presented to him by TV presenters Cathy Newman and Adam Shaw during a ceremony in London. The Curry Life Awards was held in partnership with Just Eat and was also supported by Cobra Beer, Unisoft Solutions, Greater than Gin, Print Today and Travel Links Worldwide.

Andrew Kenny, UK managing director of Just Eat, said: “The Curry Life Awards is an incredibly important event, recognising and celebrating the hard-working restaurants all across the country dedicated to serving fantastic food to their customers each and every day. We’re thrilled to support Curry Life and the excellent work the whole team does to promote the interests of this vibrant industry, which contributes so much to Britain’s culinary culture.”
