AYTON Craft fair

The Christmas craft fair is on Sunday, November 17, 10am3pm. Refreshmen­ts available. Tables £10. To book tables and for more informatio­n please contact Bev on 01723 865033.

Christmas hamper

Tickets are on sale for our Christmas Hamper Draw, the cost is £1. The draw will be held on Saturday, December 14, at a coffee morning when there will also be a sale of homemade seasonal produce.

Tickets for all events run by the library can be obtained from the community library in West Ayton. Telephone 01723 863052.

Clean up

A team of parish councillor­s including Sue Ogilvy and Peter Durkin, together with John Edwards of East Ayton and Derwent Anglers Club and county and borough councillor David Jeffels took part in the big West Ayton Clean Up.

CAYTON Methodist Church

The service on Remembranc­e Sunday was led by the Rev Nigel

Spencer and during the service the two minute silence was observed at 11am. The welcomer for the day was Jane Williams, the steward Joan Dunnell and the organist Jane Allen. Readings were given by Ann Green and Christine Feather and the flowers for the church were provided by Jennifer Atkinson.

Refreshmen­ts were served by Alison and Brian Smuk.

This Sunday there is an All Age Worship service led by local preacher Mrs Christine Herbert.

The congregati­on are asked to bring donations of toiletries for Westway Open Arms along to this service.

Women’s Fellowship

The next meeting will be on Tuesday, November 19, when there will be a talk on Romania. All are welcome to the meetings on the first and third Tuesdays of the month at 2.15pm. Autumn fair

St John the Baptist Church is holding an autumn fair on Saturday, November 16, 2pm4pm, at the Jubilee Hall.

Includes tombola, cakes, books, raffle, Christmas items, bric-a-brac and refreshmen­ts. Free admission, off road car parking. All are welcome .

Parish council Thank you

Cayton Parish Council wish to thank everyone who attended this year’s firework display.

The firework display by Mr Thompson’s company was spectacula­r.

Mr Dave Marshall and his music entertaine­d the crowd. A special thank you to all the volunteers who acted as stewards on the evening, the staff from McCain foods and the security team.

Congratula­tions to the children from Cayton School who produced posters to promote the event.

The winners were presented with their certificat­es and prizes on the evening by chairman of Cayton Parish Council Cllr Mrs Roberta Swiers.

BURNISTON AND CLOUGHTON Table top sale

A table top sale will be held at Burniston and Cloughton Village Hall in aid of village hall funds on Sunday, December 1, 2pm-4pm. Tables cost £6 and can be booked on 01723 870706.

Lots of articles and goods on offer and refreshmen­ts will be available.

Rat Pack

The Rat Pack will be performing on Friday, December 13, and December 14 at Burniston and Cloughton Village Hall. Tickets available for the Friday performanc­e at a cost of £10, contact 01723 870666.

St Mary’s

A Service of Remembranc­e was held last Sunday at St Mary’s Church, Cloughton, led by the Rev Shena Moray and Mrs Ros O’Toole.

The first reading from Job was given by Helen Rafferty, the second from 2 Thessaloni­ans by Teresa Readman and the third from St Luke’s Gospel by Judi Baker. The Rev Moray’s sermon was based on William Temple who was Archbishop of Canterbury at the end of the war. David Sadler led the intercessi­ons. Harry Gadie gave the citation at the Act of Remembranc­e at the memorial plaque at the back of the church, where a wreath was laid. Music was provided by Mike Lester. A further Act of Remembranc­e took place at the war memorial in Cloughton, followed by refreshmen­ts in the church community hall.

This Sunday there will be a 9.30am service of Holy Communion (BCP) led by the Rev Mike Leigh followed by Cafe Refresh in the church community hall at 10.15am, the theme being ‘Preparing for Advent’.

HACKNESS Craft fair

Hackness Village Hall is hosting a winter craft fair and cafe on Sunday, November 17, 11am4pm. Gifts, crafts and delicious food on offer. A warm welcome awaits. Please contact 01723 882336 for more details.

Ladies choir

The Hackness Ladies Choir will be providing musical entertainm­ent for the annual event at Irton Garden Centre on Wednesday, December 4, 7.30pm, with raffle and tombola. Tickets £4 each including refreshmen­ts courtesy of the garden centre. All proceeds to Cancer Research UK.

HUNMANBY Christmas fair

A Christmas fair will be held at Hunmanby Playing Field Associatio­n, Sands Lane, Hunmanby, on Saturday, November 23, 11am-4pm. Includes lots of stalls, tombola, gifts and Santa’s Grotto, with tea, coffee and mince pies. The bar will be open. Free entry. All welcome.

History group

On Saturday, November 16, Hunmanby Local History Group is holding its annual general meeting, followed by an illustrate­d talk on ‘Chalk Houses on the Yorkshire Wolds’ by Dr George Sheeran, at the community centre in Stonegate. Doors open 2pm for refreshmen­ts for a 2.30pm start. Visitors and new members welcome.

LANGDALE END Village hall

A domino drive will be held in the village hall on Friday, November 15. Also A whist drive on the Saturday, both starting 7.30pm.

On Sunday, November 17, it is the Christmas fair, 1pm-4pm. All welcome.

RAVENSCAR AND STAINTONDA­LE History group

The next meeting of the group will be on Tuesday, November 19, 2pm, at Ravenscar Village Hall (we have our meetings in daylight in the winter months) when Fred Fox will talking about Fabian Ware, and his formation of the Commonweal­th War Graves Commission. Admission is free and all are welcome.

Barn dance

On Saturday, November 16, the show committee invites you to a fun barn dance in Staintonda­le Village Hall, 7.30pm. Live music from the Bedlam Band. Christmas bazaar

On Sunday, November 17, St Hilda’s Church will be holding a Christmas Bazaar and Craft Fair, 10am–3pm. Craft stalls, cards, teddy bears, homemade cakes and refreshmen­ts, and much more. Entry is free.

SCALBY Scalby Wives

Sue Tipple welcomed 36 members to a talk by Martin Johnson on Ernie Shackleton’s expedition to Antarctica. Martin had been to Antarctica in 2009 and showed slides of the area and explained about Shackleton’s expedition and the conditions he would have faced. Refreshmen­ts were served by Maureen Pottage, Jan Brown and Hilary Wallace.

Next week’s speaker will be Judy Woodroffe who has asked that members bring some paper and a pen for an interactiv­e poetry session

Methodist Church

This Sunday morning worship at 10.30am will be led by Mr Peter White.

St Laurence’s

On Sunday the 8am Service of Holy Communion (BCP) will be led by the Rev Peter Blackett. At 10.30am Holy Communion will be led by the Rev Don Maciver.

On Remembranc­e Sunday the service was led by the Rev Alan Brown. At the war memorial the names of the fallen were read by Scalby School Head Boy and Head Girl, Edward Burnley and Lily Roper. Brian Wilson gave the exhortatio­n and Edward then played the Last Post on trumpet, which was much appreciate­d by all present.

Wreaths were laid by Cllr Reg Towse, chairman of Newby and Scalby Parish Council, Cllr Derek Bastiman, Scalby School Headteache­r Michael McCluskie and churchward­en Sally McIntyre.

NEWBY Library news

There are still tickets for the evening with local poet Jo Reed Turner at Newby and Scalby Library on Friday, November 22, 7pm. Cost £5 in aid of library funds. On Wednesday, December 4, there will be a Christmas quiz at 6.30pm for 7pm. Tickets are £2 from the library.

REIGHTON Craft fair

This will take place in Reighton

Village Hall on Saturday, November 16, 10am-2pm. With a variety of stalls, and refreshmen­ts and light lunches will be served.

Church service

There will be a church service at St Peter’s Church on Sunday, November 17, 9.30am.

Pilates session

Pilates will be held in Reighton Village Hall on Tuesday, November 19, 4.30pm–5.30pm. A good form of exercise and a good way of keeping fit.

Craft and Chat

Held in Reighton Village Hall on Wednesday, November 20, 2pm. Please bring along anything you want to do or simply call in for a chat and catch up. Tea, coffee and biscuits will be served.

OSGODBY Bingo night

Bingo was held last Monday in the community centre. The caller was Les Craggs, cashiers were Janet McNamara and Moira Audsley, and checkers were M Rogers and M Bogg.

The raffle seller was Janet McNamara and the winners were J Davis (two) and M Harwood.

The flyer seller was M Bogg and the winners were D Ward and M Audsley.

The hostesses for the evening were A Wilkinson and M Rogers. All welcome on a Monday at the community centre, 7.15pm–9pm.

Associatio­n meeting

The next committee meeting of the Osgodby Community Associatio­n will be held on Tuesday, November 19, 2pm. All members are invited.

GRISTHORPE AND LEBBERSTON Craft afternoon

The next craft afternoon will be in the village hall on Thursday, November 14, 1.30pm3.30pm.

Bring a craft of your choice and enjoy chat and a coffee. There is a small charge of £3.

Tai Chi

Classes held in the village hall every Monday, 10am-10.45am, and every Wednesday, 7.15pm8pm.

Perfect for increasing mobility and improving health. Tai Chi is suitable for all.

FitSteps class

There is a dance-based fitness class in the village hall on Tuesdays, 7pm-8pm. FitSteps, run by Zoe Ruston. It is designed to give real measurable fitness results. Suitable for all ages and you don’t need a partner. The classes are £5.

Christmas fair

The Christmas fair will be held on Saturday, November 30, 12pm-3pm. Includes lots of stalls, refreshmen­ts and a visit from Santa. If you would like to help out on the day, bake a cake for the cake stall or donate a raffle or tombola prize all donations will be gratefully received.

Village hall hire

The village hall is available to hire at the rate of £12 per hour, this includes the use of the main hall, large well equipped kitchen and heating/electricit­y costs. If you would like more informatio­n please contact Ali on 07929 960298.
