Dear Reader,
The simple act of putting flowers on a bench in memory of a loved one is of great significance.
Leeds mum Julie Spence wanted to place flowers on a seat in Peasholm Park in honour of her son Callum, who died 15 years ago, aged eight. The lockdown prevented her from paying her respects in person – but an appeal to Scarborough residents was answered. Scarborough was Callum’s favourite place – and the townspeople have gone some way to repay that regard.
By placing flowers on the Peasholm bench on Julie’s behalf, they have helped his mum pay her respects. They have shown how greatly Callum was loved and will never be forgotten. It will be even better when the lockdown is eased to the point when Julie can pay her respects in person. Sue Wilkinson, features writer
