Edwin was a stalwart of Staxton community

-

Tributes have been paid to Edwin Cooper, a stalwart of village life at Staxton for decades, who has died at the age of 92.

He was a leading figure of the parish council, village hall, playing field, church, local charities and cricket club for many years.

As a keen walker, he was an expert on local rights of way and had produced evidence to substantiate them, dating back to 1953.

For many years he was a churchwarden at the parish church of St Peter’s and regularly cared for the maintenance of the churchyard. He was clerk to Willerby and Staxton parish council for 38 years.

A widower, he leaves a family of children, grandchildren and great children.

A graveside burial service was due to be held yesterday and his family are planning a service to commemorate his life at a later date.
