Former headteacher appointed county Deputy Lieutenant
A former headteacher of Scarborough College has been appointed a Deputy Lieutenant for North Yorkshire.
Isobel Nixon is one of four new Deputy Lieutenants appointed by the Lord-Lieutenant for North Yorkshire, Johanna Ropner, with Her Majesty the Queen’s agreement.
The new appointments will assist the Lord-Lieutenant in her duty as the Queen’s official representative across North Yorkshire – the largest Lieutenancy area in the country.
Mrs Nixon, now based in Scarborough, was born and educated in North Wales.
After gaining her degree in English at the University of York she began her teaching career in Scarborough and later taught in schools in York and Hull.
She was a headteacher for 13 years, firstly in Cumbria and then at Scarborough College, and served on the National Committee of The Society of Heads for five years.
Mrs Nixon was an inspector with the Independent Schools Inspectorate for 18 years and was actively involved with the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme.
She retired in 2015 and is currently the Chair of Trustees of Newby and Scalby Library and information centre where she works alongside other volunteers to keep the library open.
The other new appointments are Nigel Corner, Linda Fenwick and Professor David Hill CBE DPhil(Oxon).
