Great response to Deal
What a superb response we have so far received on the proposed Scarborough Town Deal, a vision which is so important to us all.
The ideas will help to form an ambitious new vision which could lead to an even greater Scarborough in the years to come.
Thank you for contributing – and more opinions are welcome because we would like to present a strong, dynamic and exceptional case to help secure a share of the government’s £3.6bn Towns Fund. With your support, Scarborough could bid for up to £25m.
I chair the local board which would like to hear how you think any funding could be spent if we are successful. It’s a competitive process, so the more local voices the better!
For Scarborough’s prosperity and growth in the years to come, we are now looking at six overall issues – transport and digital connectivity; skills and enterprise; culture, leisure and special places; supporting a thriving town centre; well-being and social interaction; and resilience, sustainability and carbon neutrality.
The coronavirus crisis is understandably absorbing priorities for many people and businesses but planning now will enable us to look forward to brighter horizon.
Your feedback and suggestions to date have been greatly encouraging.
They include the idea of a greener Scarborough with a reduced carbon footprint and more trees in and around the town centre, more visibility of the creative and arts sectors and better connectivity to enable digital businesses to thrive.
Other suggestions are actions to support youth culture, with new venues for younger people and digital creatives. You have also suggested better transport links, alternative industries and ways in which to celebrate the uniqueness and heritage of Scarborough.
These are just some of the great, valuable ideas. What would you add or support?
