Martin Kemp to spin back on tour with 1980s DJ set
ctor, pop star and Gogglebox regular Martin Kemp has rescheduled many of his Back to ’80s DJ set for next year.
Set to be the biggest 80s part to hit town next year, the one and only Spandau Ballet legend and TV heartthrob will play pop music from the decade of leg warmers and shoulder pads.
As the hitmaker behind Gold, True and other classics, it’s safe to say Martin is something of an expert when it comes to that decade for pop music.
“This show will be a lot of fun and the ultimate return to the ’80s,” he said.
“Music is everyone’s life soundtrack and transports us all to the best times of our lives. I think we all need that right now.
“Expect one of the most euphoric nights you’ve had since the ’80s.”
Alongside his famous role as bassist in the iconic new wave outfit Spandau Ballet who have sold millions of records worldwide, Martin is also a huge TV personality who has starred in the likes of The Krays and EastEnders.
He hit the headlines with his appearances on Channel 4’s Celebrity Island With Bear Grylls last year, and with his famous son Roman on Celebrity Gogglebox.
Martin has also released an album In The Swing Of It with his wife of 31 years Shirlie, of Wham fame.
It includes covers of The Way You Look Tonight, Nice Work If You Can Get It and You Make Me Feel So Young.
“I knew Shirlie was the one really early on, because we became best friends as well,” said Kemp.
“Part of the secret why we’ve lasted is to make sure you look after your friendship as well as your love for each other. The one isn’t enough, you have to look after both.
“What had put me off doing a solo record was doing the same thing as everyone else,” he said.
“Making a record with Shirlie is a new angle: a husband and wife singing love songs to each other. For us, the words actually mean something.”
AHe started the Back To The ’80s tour last year but its progress was put on hold at the start of the coronavirus pandemic.
Dressing in the fashion from the decade for the night is an absolute must, so don’t forget to dig out those leg warmers, shoulder pads and other stylistic stunners that helped you stand out from the pack in that iconic era.
“With a reputation for huge singalongs all night long, this night promises to be the biggest ’80s night ever,” said Kemp.
