Prospect Road Surgery won’t reopen; patients given advice

-

A Scarborough GPs surgery has officially shut for good.

Central Healthcare’s Prosp e c t R o a d b r a n c h , whi c h closed at the start of the pandemic in March, will not reopen.

North Yorkshire’s Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) approved a request from Central Healthcare to close the branch surgery permanently at a meeting last Thursday.

The call came after Central Healthcare was rated “Inadequate” by health watchdog the CQC earlier this year and the practice was looking at ways it could improve its services.

Dr Omnia Hefni, from Central Healthcare, said: “After the recent CQC inspection, the CCG was made aware that the Prospect Road site was considered no longer suitable for the delivery of patient care.

“In addition, staffing difficulties and the start of the Covid- 1 9 pandemic meant that the site was temporarily closed in March 2020.

“The practice has now formally applied to the CCG to close the site permanently and consolidate staff on the Lawrence House site in a building much more appropriate for patients.

“The CCG are pleased to note the improvements made by Central Healthcare since the CQC inspection and support the application to close the Prospect Road site.”

Central Healthcare says it wants to reassure patients that it is committed to providing the safest and best care possible.

Patients who previously visited their Prospect Road surgery can now visit Lawrence House Medical Centre, off Falsgrave Road.

Some clinics are also operating f rom the practice’s Peasholm surgery on Tennyson Avenue.

All three doctors who previously worked from the Prospect Road surgery are now working from the Lawrence House site.

Central Healthcare says it will be sending patients information over the coming weeks and months and asking for feedback about other changes and improvements that it has planned.
