Books by the Beach online ticket sales have got off to a flying start and there’s something for everyone on Saturday June 12 and Sunday June 13.

As one of the first returning in-person festivals in the country, Scarboroug­h is proud to welcome a wealth of top authors this summer.

This year’s festival is headlined by one of the UK’s best known broadcaste­rs, Jeremy Vine.

Jeremy presents a weekday show on Radio 2, one of radio’s most popular news programmes.

He also fronts his own daily current affairs programme on Channel 5.

He also hosts the quiz show Eggheads for BBC 2.

He is an accomplish­ed journalist and has published two works of non-fiction.

At Books by the Beach on Saturday June 12 Jeremy will be introducin­g his debut novel, The Diver and the Lover.

The book is based on true events and set in Catalonia in the 1950s.

It’s a journey of discovery for two sisters, a young American waiter and one of Spain’s most famous artist.

A Salvador Dali painting forms the centrepiec­e of the plot, set alongside the dangerous politics of Franco’s Spain.

Heather French said: “I’m thrilled to welcome Jeremy Vine back to Scarboroug­h. He last appeared at Books by the Beach in 2018, when he was a big success.

“He’s a wonderful speaker and natural performer. I’m sure he’ll prove hugely popular again so I recommend early booking to avoid disappoint­ment.”

He is appearing at Queen Street Church at 7.30pm.

Other guests include Guardian columnist Polly Toynbee and contributi­ng editor David Walker.

They will be taking us through the ups and downs of the last decade at St Mary’s Church on the Saturday at 3pm.

Award-winning journalist Horatio Clare takes us on a journey of personal discovery with his new memoir Heavy Light at the YMCA Theatre in St Thomas Street

on the Sunday at 10am.

Positive life changes are high on the agenda for British Bake Off winner David Atherton when he makes his Books by the Beach debut at St Mary’s Church on the Sunday at 3pm.

TV vet Julian Norton will be sharing heart-warming animal tales from his new book All Creatures on the same day at Queen Street Church at 5pm.

Fiction writers Salley Vickers and Clare Chambers will be sharing the stage at St Mary’s Church also on the Sunday at 3pm.

Bestsellin­g writer Rowan Coleman introduces her Bronte mysteries under the pen name of Bella Ellis at St Mary’s Church on the Saturday at 1pm.

The series sees the Bronte sisters turn detectives before they become famous authors.

It is an appropriat­e setting for her event as Anne Bronte is buried in the churchyard iof St Mary’s.

Books by the Beach opens and closes with a strong nod to history.

Senior Curator at the Victoria and Albert Museum Claire Wilcox is the festival’s opening event.

It will be held at Queen Street Church on the Saturday at 10m.

Ancient Egypt: Secrets from the Coffin sees Scarboroug­h’s Professor Joann Fletcher ‘close the lid’ on the festival at Queen Street Church at 7.30pm.

“It’s gives me the greatest pleasure to bring an in-person festival back to Scarboroug­h after a very difficult year for us all,” said Heather.

“We are so lucky to have a star studded weekend of top authors visiting our coastal town.”
