Croquet club keen for new members

-

Ryedale Croquet Club resumed play this week and are on the hunt for new members.

Social distancing measures will be in place to reduce any risk of transmission and all equipment is sanitised before play, so there is minimal contact with any equipment, except the mallet you are playing with. Following the first lockdown, croquet was one of only eight sports permitted to open in May 2020, as an ideal sport for social distancing.

The club look forward to welcoming existing members and are always pleased to receive new members, of any age or experience.

Free tuition and equipment is available for beginners so you’ll only need a pair of soft soled shoes. Croquet is an enjoyable, sociable game that can be played by people of any age and of either gender. Croquet is a thoughtful and tactical game, generally played at a leisurely pace, but one that will give you plenty of fresh air and exercise.

There are opportunities at local, national and international level for advanced players, however most club members see it as a relaxing and friendly activity.

Ryedale Croquet Club is a small, friendly club based at Ryedale Sports & Social Club on Thornton Road, Pickering.

They currently have four short lawns and play both Association and Golf Croquet on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons, but other times can be arranged. Current membership is quite small and the club need more members. The mood at club sessions is generally relaxed, but we also field teams in several regional competitions, playing against clubs throughout Yorkshire and further afield.
