The screen stars just love our area!
Tom Cruise has recently been in our area filming the latest instalment of the Mission: Impossible series.
The Hollywood A-Lister was first seen stepping out of a helicopter in Pickering at the start of last week.
The cast and crew of around 300 have been using the North Yorkshire Moors Railway stations at Pickering and Levisham.
Our journalists greeted the megastar when they caught up with him at Levisham, and he waved back and said how beautiful the area was.
He is also pictured, right, with costar Hayley Atwell filming a scene at Levisham station.
Mr Cruise’s visit is not the first time North Yorkshire has played host to film and TV stars from around the world.
From blockbuster movies to much loved TV dramas, the North York Moors often plays a starring role on our screens.
Here are 10 films and TV programmes that have shone a spotlight on our stunning landscapes, coastlines and towns.

BRIDGERTON
The period drama series was partly shot at Castle Howard, which was the fictional Clyvedon Castle. It is also well known as the location for several other productions, including Brideshead Revisited.

PHANTOM THREAD
This historical drama starring Sir Daniel Day Lewis was filmed in various locations across North Yorkshire inlcuding Whitby, Staithes and Robin Hood’s Bay.

THE SECRET GARDEN
Fountains Abbey was used as the location for the 1993 adaptation of this children’s classic, and also features in the more recent version starring Julia Walters, Colin Firth and Dixie Egerickx.

DAD’S ARMY
Producers transformed Bridlington Old Town’s High Street into the fictional Walmington-on-Sea in the 1940s, for this 2016 film starring Bill Nighy and Toby Jones.

THE ROYAL
The building portrayed in the ITV series as The Royal is a building called Red Court, which is located on Esplanade, Scarborough. FIlming for the show also took place in various locations in Whitby.

HEARTBEAT
The village of Goathland is famous as being the village of Aidensfield in this popular ITV police drama, which was also filmed around the North York Moors.

THE RUNAWAYS
This classic adventure film, following the advertures of three children and their donkey, was filmed across the North Yorkshire Moors, and showcases the dramatic landscape.

ALL CREATURES GREAT AND SMALL
Set in the Yorkshire Dales and filmed in a range of locations. The market town of Grassington plays its role in the drama as Darrowby Village.

HARRY POTTER AND THE PHILOSOPHER’S STONE
Goathland Station was used as the location for Hogsmeade railway station, where the Hogwarts Express arrives from London, in this first Harry Potter film relased in 2001

SAINT MAUD
Psychological horror film Saint Maud was released last year. It was partly filmed in Scarborough and 80 local people were used as extras for scenes filmed in South Bay.
