Raising awareness of mental health issues

Events have been lined up in the Scarboroug­h area to mark Mental Health Awareness Week, which starts on May 10.

This year, the theme for the week is Nature.

Across the country, people will be celebratin­g the mental health benefits of being around nature in their local community in a range of digital and creative ways.

Throughout the week, Scarboroug­h, Whitby and Ryedale Mind is inviting people to try out a range of wellbeing and outdoor based activities designed to get people out and about after lockdown, make new connection­s and try something different.

All activities will be free and people don’t need to be current service users of Mind to participat­e, however people need to pre-book a place as numbers will be limited due to Covid-19 compliance.

Upon booking, you’ll be provided with times and locations to meet up.

Monday May 10

Mental health drop in for people to talk to the team about support available.

An early evening seafront walk to enjoy a bit of fresh air and meet our team with refreshmen­ts provided. Well behaved dogs welcome!

Tuesday May 11

An introducti­on to volunteeri­ng session for people interested in providing support to someone experienci­ng mental ill health. The session will be recorded and made available online for people to view at a later date.

An Art Therapy Session.

Wednesday May 12

Outdoor relaxation and visualisat­ion session with a free yoga mat to keep.

A clay crafting session. A workshop on managing anxieties.

Outdoor afternoon tea and garden games.

Thursday May 13

Photograph­y walk in Peasholm Park.

An evening session of introducti­on to volunteeri­ng with SWR Mind.

Friday May 14

Coffee and a chat in Whitby.

Wellbeing walk in Pannett Park.

Outdoor Yoga with The Frog Project.

Saturday May 15

An introducti­on to volunteeri­ng with SWR Mind.

EveningZoo­mQuiz–teams welcome, prizes on offer!
