Dear Reader,
The overall concept of Scarborough Blueprint 2021 is laudable, as are some of the ideas within it. It’s designed to provide a framework for the town for the next 15 years, concentrating on four key areas and bringing, among other things, a thriving cultural scene, greater job opportunities, better physical and digital connectivity, and a recognition of the climate emergency. Some of the visible differences look, at the moment, to be town-centre changes, cycle ways and rail station improvements in town and at Seamer.
Many people with long memories will recall all-singing-and-dancing plans and projects going back decades ... remember Kissing Sleeping Beauty, for instance? Others, especially on social media, are wondering when we’ll finally get a new cinema. Whatever happens, devolution will mean Scarborough Council won’t be here in its current form for that much longer. It’s not a bad idea to get spending some of its money now.
