Two killed, and child injured, in two-car collision

Two people died and a child was taken to hospital after a crash between Speeton and Bridlingto­n.

Police say a man and a woman in their 30s, who were the driver and a passenger of a red Peugeot 2008, suffered fatal injuries in the accident on the A165 at the junction of Grindale Road on Friday afternoon.

Officers were called to reports of a collision involving the Peugeot and a black Mercedes GLA at 3.30pm.

A child travelling in the Peugeot was taken to hospital as a precaution with minor injuries.

The female driver and sole occupant of the Mercedes sustained serious injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment. Police described her condition as serious.

Road closures were in place to allow emergency services to help and investigat­e.

A spokespers­on for Humberside Police said: “The families of the deceased are being supported by speciallyt­rained officers and our deepest sympathies are with them at this extremely sad time.”

Officers are urging any witnesses to get in touch.

“We are appealing for anyone who saw the collision or either vehicle prior to the collision to call us on our non-emergency number 101 quoting log 338 of 7 May 2021,” said the Humberside Police spokespers­on.

Police were also called to another crash on Friday, on the A171 in Scarboroug­h.

Officers shut the road between Scarboroug­h and Burniston at around 8.15pm after the accident blocked the road just past the rugby club.

The route was reopened at around 9.20pm.
